Fishing Reports

One of our favorites is going to be muddy and off the menu until mid to late June - keep coming back to Montana Flyfishing Expeditions for current updates. Hopefully the Yellowstone will clear in time for Golden Stones and Salmonflies as we have not been able to really fish these hatches for the past 2 years - keep your fingers crossed!

This past weekend brought on one of Montana's spring snow storms on all of Southwest Montana which made the Baetis POP on both the Yellowstone and Madison Rivers. If you could handle the white stuff falling from the sky you were rewarded with excellent dry fly fishing for a good chunk of the day. NO CROWDS = GREAT FISHING!

Very few crowds and plenty of fish during a few guide days early this week on the Missouri River. The majority of the fishing was done beneath the surface on nymphs but as each evening approached more heads were up on midges. The rising fish were not too technical and could be fooled with PA's and Gnat's, which is nice! Still some days left for Montana Flyfishing Expeditions spring special float price of $350/day. The Big Horn River fished very well over the past few days with sunny skies and calm wind. Montana Flyfishing Expeditions spent our days on the lower river fishing both dries and streamers and both were very successful.  Numbers and quality of fish were good and crowds were minimal making the entire experience on the Big Horn awesome for Montana spring fishing!

Montana Flyfishing Expeditions is out on the Yellowstone today trying to dodge the wind and pick up a few fish on the warmest day of the season so far. We will most likely be fishing streamers most of the time along with nymphing a few holes. A few fish so far with more to come!

Along with the warm weather in Montana this weekend expect breezy conditions. The Missouri River is fishing well when conditions allow with nymphs, streamers and a little bit with dry flies.
